Is it worth the risk of NOT testing for METH?

Skilled Independent Professionals

Meth Testing Process

Stage 1

Initial Testing

Option 1 - Field Composite

A trained specialist will attend the property and in accordance with forensic sampling protocol will complete a ‘Field Composite’ test which is when:

    1. An individual sample is taken from each room.
    2. Samples are forwarded to an independent accredited laboratory for analysis.
    3. The lab analyses the meth from all samples using one extraction.
    4. The result is the sum of meth from these samples.
    5. The combined sample is analysed to give a representation of the average concentration.
    6. If the composite sample returns a potential maximum where any one area tested could be above the NZ Standard of 1.5µg/100cm² then a trained sampler will need to return to the property to conduct individual sampling to ascertain the levels in each area.
    7. The maximum number of samples per tube is 5, but you may have multiple tubes.

From $199 + mileage + GST for 5 sampling areas.

Option 2 - Lab Composite

A trained specialist will attend the property and in accordance with forensic sampling protocol will complete a ‘Lab Composite’ test which is when:

    1. An individual sample is taken from each room.
    2. Samples are forwarded to an independent accredited laboratory for analysis.
    3. The lab extracts each sample separately.
    4. The lab combines equal portions of the samples extracts, to form a new sample.
    5. The combined sample is analysed to give a representation of the average concentration.
    6. If the composite sample returns a potential maximum where any one area tested could be above the NZ Standard of 1.5µg/100cm² – the lab can go straight into analysing the individual samples if required without having to return to the dwelling. Only under client instruction.
    7. Individual Meth Wipes are generally kept at the lab for one month before discarding.
    8. The maximum number of samples per batch is 10, but you may have multiple batches.

From $315 + mileage + GST for 5 sampling areas.

Positive Test Result

If the Initial Screen Testing relays a positive result for methamphetamine the next step is to complete a Confirmation/Quantitative Test to determine which rooms/areas in the property require attention.

Stage 2

Confirmation/Quantitative Testing

In accordance with forensic sampling protocol controlled samples are taken and forwarded to an independent accredited laboratory for GCMS analysis. The results from the laboratory will determine the levels of contamination which will determine the extent of remedial work required to reinstate the property.

$570 + mileage + GST for three screening areas ($190 per room)

Additional areas $100 + GST

Stage 3

Post Remedial Testing

The property must be retested at the completion of remedial reinstatement. Again the process for completing Confirmation/Quantitative testing will be followed and the results forwarded to an independent accredited laboratory for GCMS analysis.

$370 + mileage + GST for three screening areas

Additional areas $80 + GST

Meth testing cars, trucks and vehicles is becoming more common. Trucks and vehicles are a place where people can spend long hours. If any vehicle has been contaminated with methamphetamine and a driver or worker spends a lengthy time in this restricted area it can cause risky health concerns.

Many organisations in the Canterbury region have strong anti-drug policies, and this can be backed up with P tests and checks of vehicles. Make sure your trucks and vehicles are a safe environment for your workers. Arrange a meth test and have peace of mind for you and your team.

People from all walks of life can use meth for different reasons, and buyers should consider carrying out a meth test on all used car sales.

That’s right, even our places of education can be ‘clan labs’ or places where Methamphetamine is smoked. Meth can be manufactured in a back pack and sold on campus. Smoking the Class A drug will leave a toxic residue that can produce a positive result and this can cause health problems to innocent people without them knowing.

It is of great importance to our society to keep our young people safe while in public educational institutions throughout the Canterbury region. Getting a Meth Test where our young people live and study will give you peace of mind.

You have to ask yourself…is this my dream home, or a nightmare? Is it worth the risk of ‘not testing’? Methamphetamine manufacturers and smokers don’t have favourite places, they’ll take anywhere they can get! No community is immune to drug behaviour. When you buy a new home or a rental it is imperative to leave no stone unturned because it may be the biggest investment you have. Getting a property meth tested before you buy could save a lot of time, money and worry. This Christchurch couple unfortunately discovered this the hard way.

Once your Canterbury rental is tenanted, stay on top of things by getting a base line test and maintaining these tests after each tenant so you know clearly that your rental that you are offering is clean and inhabitable.

Hotels, motels, and baches have a responsibility to ensure the safety of their guests and accommodation owners want to protect their investments. While it is not reasonable to have rooms tested between every use, it is a good idea to have rooms tested on a semi-regular basis.

Methamphetamine can be manufactured anywhere and at any time, with a reasonably quick set up. This makes motels, hotels & baches an attractive place to smoke and manufacture methamphetamine.

Drug criminals may think they are less likely to get caught when they book holiday accommodation online where they can often book anonymously. Not having to have contact with the owner or manager makes it easier for meth manufacturers, as it is harder to screen someone you don’t have face to face contact with.

Don’t take the risk, get your Canterbury accommodation baseline tested for meth contamination so you know it is safe and clean.
